Gutting & Welding the Van

Little Betty Blue is a VW LT31 from 1993.

When we brought her she was part converted, but not particularly well! So after chatting to some friends and watching van conversion videos on YouTube, we decided it was best to completely gut her out and start from scratch.

This proved more difficult than we imagined, with her glued down rubber flooring, rivets that we had to saw off and many other difficulties that you can see in our video; but it was definitely worth doing!
When we finally stripped back the floor we found some rust and holes in the metal, so had to get to work with a welder. Unfortunately Betty bit back, and Sam burnt his face! Check it out here!

We also decided to fill in the back windows for a little extra warmth and privacy. We did this with some big aluminium sheets, glue, filler, and some timber. Surprisingly, it was actually pretty easy to do and worked, even if we did completely wing it!
Although, I did kinda like the idea of turning Betty into an ice cream van!

Shout out to Paul Evans for his great work at this stage with his famous smoked salmon on the holes we didn’t manage to weld!
